We all have been using Gmail since ages for sending out emails. However, the majority of us are unaware of so many hidden features which Gmail provides us to make our lives easier and to become productive.

Mail Preview

A majority of you must have used Microsoft Outlook as your Email service provider someday. If not, don’t worry I will tell you about a very interesting feature which Gmail has built in but it doesn’t come with default Gmail settings.

Do you want an interface which looks similar to this? This setting will let you check your emails quickly without going back to the main screen frequently.

Follow this steps to have the same User Interface as shown in the screen above.

Steps to follow:

Step 1 – Go to Settings at the top-right corner of your screen.

Step 2 – Select “Labs” from the top categories. (appearing in blue color)

Step 3 – Next up, you will see a search bar in it write “Preview Pane”. Down there you will see a Preview Pane screen click on “Enable”.

Step 4 – Click on “Save Changes“.

After clicking on Save Changes button you will be logged into your Gmail account again.

Step 5 – Finally, you will see an icon at the top-right corner of your screen. By clicking it you will get several options. Click on “Horizontal Split”.

You are good to go. You will see the same screen which I shared with you at the top.

Gmail Star Email Feature 

Setting priority for important things in life is something which everyone should master. Keeping these things in mind Google gave us an awesome “Stars” feature. Now with this feature, you can select various colors of stars depending upon your priority.

Still not clear what am I talking about? Okay, let me give you some visual representation.

You must have seen only the Yellow colored star but there are so many other colored stars to work with. You can decide which color star you want to assign to all the emails which are important to you, spams, not to open, replied, not to reply etc.

Note: The options above are just taken for example. You can go ahead and select any star color according to your priorities.

Steps to follow

Step 1 – Go to “Settings” at the top-right corner of your computer screen.

Step 2 – In the “General” tab scroll down and you will see a screen similar to the one shown below in the image.

Find the “Stars” section from the list.

Step 3 –  Now that you have located this screen. Just drag and drop the stars which you want to use.

Step 4 – Click on “Save Changes“.

Boom you are done.

For changing, star colors click on it multiple times.

Undo Send Feature

As the name suggests “Undo” it will let you revoke your messages back if sent by mistake.

This feature comes in handy when you are sending a formal message and accidentally click on Send. Don’t worry just enable the “Undo” feature and you are good to go. I will show you how to activate this feature.

Steps to follow

Step 1 – Head on to “Settings” tab to the top-right corner of your screen.

Step 2 – Next in the “General” category find “Undo Send” option and enable it.

You can select cancellation period from the drop-down menu. The maximum limit is 30 seconds.

Step 3 – Click on “Save Changes” button.

Now go back to your email list and send a test email. After sending the email at the top you will see an Undo message option shown in the image below.

Clicking on “Undo” will take you back to your message.

I find this feature useful for those who have a habit of clicking Send button. This can save you.

Secure Gmail Plugin Feature

If you exchange lots of sensitive data and you don’t want it to reach in wrong hands, then this feature is for you. The Gmail Secure plugin lets you encrypt your email by creating a password for it. The person who is receiving the email has to enter the password which the sender generated.

How to get this feature?

Steps to follow

Step 1 – Head on to “Chrome Web Store” and search for “Secure Gmail“. Install the extension.

Step 2 – Refresh or reopen your Gmail account and you will see a lock icon next to your “Compose” button.

Step 3 – Click on the lock icon to create an “Encrypted Email“. You will see a red header at the top on your new message screen.

If you click on “Send encrypted” button you will be asked to create a password for this email for security purposes.

Step 4 – Enter the password and the password hint in the pop-up. Click on “Encrypt and Send” to finally send the email

The receiver will get an email like this.

Step 5 – The receiver will now have to enter the password provided by the sender. After entering the password the email can be accessed.

This feature is amazing for sharing confidential passwords and bank details.

MailTrack Plugin Extension

Well, no need to worry anymore there are tons of extensions available to check whether your email is read or not.
